This drawing is one that I did for my mother and during the process of working on this one, I was suffering from severe fibromyalgia and high inflammation in the soft tissue around my lumbar spine due to a bad car crash I was in, so it took me about two years to get to a point where I could comfortably finish it. I began it in early 2011, originally promising it to my mother for Mother's Day, but Mother's Day 2011 and Mother's Day 2012 came and went without it being complete. I finally finished it, though, and it was a significant accomplishment for me to be able to work on my pastels again. I could not be more proud of the finished product, which is named after The Band Perry's song "Mother Like Mine" because without my mom, I would be nothing. The reference photo for this project was constructed in Photoshop from two different photos. I originally only had the red and yellow rose, but I wanted some contrast, so I overlaid it on top of a photo of some violets.
